The Welsh capital needs more housing to meet growing demand and forecasted economic and demographic growth, and north west Cardiff has long been identified as an area suitable for sustainable development.
To meet this need, landowner, the Plymouth Estate, and lead developer, Redrow Homes, are creating Plasdŵr , Cardiff’s 21st Century garden city over 900 acres.
Plasdŵr ’s master plan was approved in March 2017 with Redrow starting on the first 126 homes of Phase 1 of Plasdŵr in April 2017. This phase will bring a total of 630 homes to the north and south of Llantrisant Road next to Radyr. The first founding residents moved in to their homes at Parc Plymouth at the end of 2017.
Redrow is also building the next 120 homes south of Pentrebane Road in the St Fagans ward. Work at Cae St Fagans started in August 2017 on the first 120 two, three and four bedroom homes of a total of 290 set within 8.8 hectares. The first residents are expected to move in in Summer 2018. In June 2018, Bellway was confirmed as the second residential developer at Plasdŵr, building on a 13.47-acre parcel of land to the north of Llantrisant Road between Heol Isaf, and Redrow’s Parc Plymouth. Named Rhiwlas, the development will comprise 120 two to four-bedroom homes. Work at Rhiwlas is expected to begin in early 2019, find out more here.
Set within 900 acres (368ha) of land entirely owned by the Plymouth Estate, Plasdŵr will be developed over the next 20 years, bringing around 7,000 new homes plus shops, offices, schools, health centres, leisure centres, pubs and restaurants.
